A community is a social unit, such as religion, norms, identity, value, or norms. In communities, commonly the members share a sense of place in a certain given geographical area. Each community has certain places to share, such as a country, town, village, or even neighborhood. And they also have virtual space to communicate virtually.
The word “community” refers to the Old French word “comunete” and Latin word “communis” that means “public spirit”. The name refers to the intention each community has, such as needs, intent, beliefs, preferences, risks, and resources. This is what makes their community have a certain identity. According to a study by McMillan and Chavis in 1986, There are 4 senses of community, as the following:
1. Membership
It means that the members of a community have a feeling of belonging or a sense of personal relatedness. So, it is no wonder that they come and discuss anything they carry on their shoulders. Because they believe in the members of their similar community. And this trust makes everybody feel so strong together.
2. Influence
It means that every group feels that they matter. And the community matters to its members. Everybody and organization share trust and belonging. If they do good things, everyone will follow. And it happens otherwise. That is the reason why we must be concerned about what type of community fits our personality and needs.
3. Reinforcement
Every community supports the integration and fulfillment of the needs of its members. They give almost anything to help each other. They need to be precious together in life and in front of God.
