Joseph is an important figure in the bible. In the Old Testament, Joseph is the son of the patriarch Jacob and Rachel. Joseph brings so many traditions and cultures to today’s society. Because there are some traditions that are kept. One of the traditions is that his bone is stated to be buried at Shechem, the oldest of the northern shrines (Joshua 24:32).
The complete story of Joseph is written in Genesis (37-50). The story started with Joseph being hated by his own envious brothers. They were angry and envious of the gift given by their father to Joseph, which was “a coat of many colors.” Read the complete story in the following points.

1. Joseph’s Brother Sold Him
Due to their enviousness and jealousy, they sold Joseph to a party of Ishmaelites/ Midianites. They brought Joseph to Egypt furthermore. Joseph was then believed to have the ability to interpret dreams. So he got a high place in the pharaoh’s kingdom.
2. A Settlement of the Family
After his brothers sold him, they also went to Goshen, Egypt, to obtain food. Later on, Joseph and his brother reconciled. And he invited his entire family to come to Egypt where a settlement was provided.
3. A Novella
The story of Joseph was called a novella and can be read in Genesis 37:2 as the “history of the family of Jacob.” The authorities agreed that this story relates to the ancient Egyptian “Tale of Two Brothers.” But without the mythical and magical motifs in the Egyptian tale.
