Every year, the date of Lent changes because it follows the liturgical calendar. So, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. It is usually held 46 days before Easter. During Lent, the Christians should do 40 fastings and 6 Sundays. In the UK, people may call Ash Wednesday Pancake Day. And this name is different in other countries.
2. What to Do During Lent?
There are many ways Christians do to observe Lent. Some will observe the fast strictly. They are the Orthodox and traditional denominations who do fast strictly, starting from Ash Wednesday, and have no meat, eggs, fish, and fats until Easter Sunday. Some people will choose to leave chocolate, meat, or alcohol during Lent. But sometimes there are people who stop watching TV, going to the gym and social media.
3. The Reasons Why it is Called Ash Wednesday?
Ash Wednesday has a long story to tell. But long story short, there was the traditional blessing of the ashes from the burning of palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday celebrations. This ash is usually used in the church to draw a cross on the head of people who begin fasting.
