Tweety (short for Tweety Bird or Tweety Pie), is a fictional animated yellow canary in Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, the animated cartoon series.
The name “Tweety” is the result of a pun, as it originally meant “dear”, or “Tweet” which is the English onomatapoeie for the sound of a bird.
Tweety was actually created by Bob Clampett of Looney Tunes in the early 1940s. He made his debut in 1942 in the cartoon short, “A Tale of Two Kitties,” in which he had to cope with two hungry cats, the two cats called Babbit and Catstello.
