The declaration was a proclamation of the independence of the Thirteen Colonies from the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Fun Fact about America’s Independence Day
When America’s Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia, President John Adams immortalized it by firing 13 cannons. The number 13 was chosen in honor of the 13 colonies involved in passing the independence resolution. After that, fireworks were launched 13 times for the same purpose.
Professor of History from the American University, Kate Haulman, said fireworks are not really a Native American tradition. The tradition was brought from England. As for Guy Fawkes Day, his main inspiration, when he failed to blow up the British Parliament Building, was celebrated with huge fireworks.
