Precious Moments Fact
Started from Christian Greeting Cards
The illustrator of Precious Moments, Sam Butcher, started the business by selling Christian greeting cards. At first, the design put a story of an angel named Timmy that follows a star showing the way to Jesus. Other early stories were involved in many bible stories. Now, Precious Moments is popular with their variations of little statues or figurines. Moreover, they still keep their unique characteristic that is a child-like design.
Design Cycle
There are 25-40 figurines designs that stopped their sale each year. However, new designs will come and replace them. Other than that, there is always a collector who sells its previous collection, of course, they have a higher price. But, if the demand is high, sometimes Precious Moments may reproduce its design again.
The Chapel
Besides its figurines and other gifts, Precious Moments also has opened its own theme park “The Chapel” in 1989. It is located in Carthage, Missouri. It shows Butcher’s paintings of Biblical characters. However, some of the attractions were closed in 2007, because of lack of visitors. However, the gallery, gift shop, and some attractions are still opened.
TV Specials
Precious Moments also had released TV specials numerous times. There was Timmy’s Gift airing in 1991 and then animated series of Precious Moments in 2007, and many others. In fact, you can still get their VHS on Amazon.
