Rosh Hashanah means the head of the year (literally) and celebrates the creation of the world. Or it means Jewish New Year. We may know that most Jewish celebrations relate to fasting, but this is the exception. Rosh Hashanah is about festivity. On this big day, the Orthodox Jews keep burning a candle for 24 hours.
Rosh Hashanah is commonly celebrated between September 5th and October 5th. You can count it 163 days after Passover. Furthermore, Rosh Hashanah never occurs on a Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday. Every Jewish person who follows Judaism celebrates Rosh Hashanah.
1. The Way Jewish People Celebrate Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is a time for Jewish to do spiritual reflection and prayer. On this day, they will gather with their relatives or send cards. Traditional foods are served. And the must-be-served menu is bread (challah) and sweets (honey and apples).
Besides having the meals, some of them also perform Tashlikh. It is a ceremony to cast off the sins of the previous years. This ceremony starts by walking into the water and emptying the pockets.

Rosh Hashanah may not be mentioned in the Bible but it was started in the Biblical time. The celebration always starts after the shofar horn is blowing.
3. Fun Facts
Blowing the horn also has specific requirements, which is 100 notes are blown off each day. During this day, every Jewish must stop working. They must take a holiday and pray.
While meeting relatives or other Jewish people in this Rosh Hashanah, they must greet each other by saying “L’shanah Tovah” which means “for a good year.”
